Imogen and Otto in the long grass above the lake

We are getting married

Imogen & Otto

Saturday 25 September 2027

We are so glad you are coming. It means a great deal to us to spend this day with the people who got us here, and to feed all of you at one very long table. Thank you for travelling, near and far.

With love, Imogen and Otto

How we met

The two of us on the path above Thornmere

It started with a wrong train and a shared umbrella, and turned into ten years of walking. From the fells above Thornmere to a flat with too many maps in it, we have built a life we like. Otto asked the question on the path above the lake, in the rain, and neither of us has stopped talking about it since.

The itinerary

Here is what to expect on 25 September. Everything happens within the grounds, so once you are here you can leave the car where it is.

  1. 14:30

    The ceremony

We gather on the upper lawn, looking down at the water. Please come a few minutes early to find a seat and take in the view.

  2. 15:30

    Drinks on the terrace

Straight after the ceremony: tea, something colder, and small things to eat while the sun goes round behind the hall.

  3. 18:30

    Dinner

A seated dinner in the long room. Expect local food, short speeches and the warmth of a room with everyone we like in it.

  4. 21:00

    Dancing

The formal part ends and the shoes come off. Music, a bar that stays open, and a late walk down to the lake for anyone still standing.

  5. 23:30

    Last cars

Taxis leave from the front of the hall, and the minibus to the village runs at half past eleven and again at midnight.

The venue

The long room at Thornmere Hall, laid for dinner
Thornmere Hall

Thornmere Hall, Cumbria

Thornmere, near Keswick, Cumbria CA12 4RT

A grey stone hall at the head of the water, with lawns that run down to it and fells on three sides. We chose it for the walk between the ceremony and dinner, which takes four minutes and is the best part of the day.

Directions and parking

Everything you need to know

Can I bring a plus one?

If your invitation names two people, yes. Put their name in the reply so the seating plan and the kitchen both know about them.

Are children invited?

They are. There is a room off the hall set aside for them from six, with somebody looking after it, and the lawns are fenced from the water.

What is the dress code?

Formal, but standing on grass in it. Bring a layer for the evening: it is Cumbria in September and the terrace is above the water.

Do I need to bring the paper invitation?

No. Everything is on this page, and the only thing we need from you is the reply form below.

Who do I ask if something goes wrong on the day?

Ask for Priya at the front of the hall. She is running the day for us and knows more about it than either of us does.

The flowers, the morning they arrived

Book your spot. See you soon.

Kindly reply by 15 July 2027.
